The Cloverdale Arts Alliance proudly presents the intoxicating music of Aphrodesia at the second Friday Night Live concert on June 29. An 11-piece, San Francisco-based band, Aphrodesia is deeply rooted in African music. They begin their musical stew with plenty of Afrobeat mixed in with a hearty sprinkle of jazzy Funk, a full measure of Caribbean spice and a heap of East African rhythms. Topping off this heady mix are the powerful vocal stylings of lead singer, Lara Maykovich. The result is uniquely Aphrodesia. Warning: You will feel seriously compelled to get up and dance!

In 2006, Aphrodesia took their musical show on a tour of West Africa, back to the roots of their music. Band members are solidly committed to issues of social justice, environmental protection and have headlined numerous benefit concerts, traveling to their performances in a vegetable oil-powered bus. Together, these musicians make superb, feel-good music that is imbued with the kind of communal spirit you will long remember.
