On August 24, at the final performance of the Friday Night Live series, the Cloverdale Arts Alliance is pleased to bring you the band, Boca do Rio (“mouth of the river.”) This group celebrates the music of Brazil, and evokes the sensuous sounds of hot, tropical nights. Brazil is a country where music is an important part of daily life, and its people live by its rhythms. Boca do Rio digs deep into Brazil’s soulful music, performing a wide repertoire of sambas, bossa novas and original songs. It is said that Boca do Rio’s music compels listeners to dance–no one can sit still at a performance!
Gogó is the singer/guitarist and songwriter for Boca do Rio. He spent time living on the banks of the Amazon, inspired by the mixing of the music of local and world cultures. He has performed his original work in venues across the U.S. and Europe. Jacob Aginsky plays piano for the group; a prodigy from childhood, he now tours extensively with many notables. Alex Calatayud plays all the Brazilian percussion of his native land. The other talented members of the group include Larry De La Cruz on saxophone, Jon Evans on bass, Dan Foltz on drums, and Tika Morgan on backup vocals.
