Shelby Kennedy

BIOGRAPHICAL and EDUCATIONAL INFORMATION

Born in Dallas, Texas 1943. Grew up in Houston, Texas.
Attended University of Texas, Austin, Texas. Majored in Fine Arts, 1964‑1966.
Moved to San Francisco, California in 1966 to attend the San Francisco Art Institute.
BFA in Sculpture/Ceramics, 1969 SFAI
MFA in Film Making, 1971 SFAI
Resided in San Francisco until 2000.
Moved to Cloverdale, California 2000.

ARTISTIC ACHIEVEMENTS

2005-6 Entry way tiles and a large “Map of Cloverdale” ceramic mural for the Boys and Girls Club of Cloverdale.

2003   Commissioned to design and produce a group of ceramic murals for a home in San Francisco’s Pacific Heights also nine tile columns for Bayanihan House hotel at 6th and Mission streets in San Francisco.

2002   Established a ceramic and sculpture studio in Cloverdale.

2000    Main-floor Exhibitor with Alida Blair Design in the San Francisco Flower and Garden Show. Islamic pavers and a fountain for “Patio Andaluz”. Shown on HG television.

1999   A grant from San Francisco Neighborhood Beautification Fund for Juan P.Piaffare Plaza tile panels (a new 35 unit apartment building). This involved several tile making workshops with resident children and the architect.

1996    Included in the book Making Mosaics by Leslie Dericks published by Lark books.

1995    Tile and mosaic roof garden fountain commission for On Lok's Dr. William L. Gee Center in San Francisco.

1994   Serpentine pebble pathway of over 1,000 sq. ft. of patterned black and white River pebbles at Plaza del Sol, a 59 unit multi-family residence owned by Mission Housing Development Corporation (A non-profit housing developer). Established Tile & Mosaic Workshop in SF’s Mission District.

1989   Created two mosaics for Pacific Primary School. Designed, produced and installed two large ceramic murals in private homes.

1985    Two- person show of Architectural Ceramics at the Canessa Gallery in San Francisco with Mary Quagliata.

1973    Cannes film festival, short film I Change, I am the Same  shown.

1972  Lightning Waterfall Fern Soup  a six minute film of mine is shown at the San Francisco International Film Festival. A package of short films is included in the Whitney Museum’s “New American Filmmakers” touring show. I tour Europe for five months showing my art films.
