Sculpture 2009 Exhibit Opens at the Plaza June 6th

2009 will mark the 7th year of celebrating public art with the Annual Cloverdale Sculpture Exhibit. The exhibit enlivens our plaza each year for the benefit of the local community and those visiting our town, while also contributing to our reputation as an arts destination in Sonoma County.

Our downtown plaza will become a sculpture garden from June 6th to September 30th. This is a juried exhibit consisting of the best of numerous high-quality works submitted by professional sculptors from across Northern California. Our expert jury selected 21 pieces for this year’s exhibit from the large number of applications received. Our jury this year consisted of:

• Edwin Hamilton, nationally-renowned stonemason and sculptor

• Carla Stone, exhibition coordinator at SSU Art Gallery for the past 11 years

• Emily Scheibel, Geyser Arts Gallery Director and sculptor of hand-crafted concrete works

A panel of 3 judges will select "Best of Show" along with two Honorable Mentions on the opening day, June 6th. Our judges this year are:

• Allan Voigt, co-founder, with his wife Judy, of the Voigt Family Sculpture Foundation. Created in 2005, the foundation’s focus is to facilitate the installation of large outdoor sculptures in publicly-accessible places.

• Jennifer Sloan, Executive Director, Arts Council of Sonoma County. The Arts Council provides leadership in support of the growth and accessibility of all art and artists in Sonoma County.

• Sandra Erickson, an expert in contemporary works by local and internationally-known artists, and owner of the pre-eminent Sonoma County contemporary art showcase, Erickson Fine Art Gallery, Inc
