Annual Sculpture Exhibit 2009

2009 marks the 7th year of celebrating public art with the Annual Cloverdale Sculpture Exhibit. The exhibit enlivens our plaza each year for the benefit of the local community and those visiting our town, while also contributing to our reputation as an arts destination in Sonoma County.

Our downtown plaza has been transformed into a sculpture garden all summer long, showcasing 20 sculptures selected from the many entries. The exhibit runs from June 6th till September 30th. This is a juried show. Our jury this year consisted of:

  • Edwin Hamilton, nationally-renowned stonemason and sculptor

  • Carla Stone, exhibition coordinator at SSU Art Gallery for the past 11 years

  • Emily Scheibel, Geyser Arts Gallery Director and sculptor of hand-crafted concrete works

A panel of 3 judges selected "Shadows of Eternity" by Boback Emad as "Best of Show" and presented him with a cash prize at the opening reception on June 6th. "Spires + Pinnacles" by Frank Miller, "Totem" by Joseph Styles, and "Pinnacles" by Steven Brown were each awarded "Honorable Mention". Judges for the 2009 Exhibit were:

  • Allan Voigt, co-founder, with his wife Judy, of the Voigt Family Sculpture Foundation. Created in 2005, the foundation’s focus is to facilitate the installation of large outdoor sculptures in publicly-accessible places.

  • Jennifer Sloan, Executive Director, Arts Council of Sonoma County. The Arts Council provides leadership in support of the growth and accessibility of all art and artists in Sonoma County.

  • Sandra Erickson, an expert in contemporary works by local and internationally-known artists, and owner of the pre-eminent Sonoma County contemporary art showcase, Erickson Fine Art Gallery, Inc

The public is invited to enjoy the sculptures all summer long.
