Pete Estabrook (founder) - trumpet; Jordan Wardlaw-saxophone; John Simon- piano; Kendrick Freeman-drums; Cliff Hugo- bass are The Blue Note Collective. Comprised of current and former SSU Jazz Faculty members, they join together to render jazz from the 1950's and 60's, focusing on the soulful, bluesy, catchy tunes of the Hard Bop Masters, including Horace Silver, Lee Morgan, Kenny Dorham, Donald Byrd, Hank Mobley, Herbie Hancock and Wayne Shorter.
Expect to hear from these talented musicians the style of jazz that characterizes Bop; fast tempos, instrumental virtuosity and improvisation. Bop or Bebop hit the jazz scene in the 1940s and erupted in the 50s and 60s. Let's make this a party! Dig into your closet and find clothing from the bop era to wear to the last jazz session of the season.
