Adult Art Classes

Sandra Rose Novia, a native of Massachusetts, is an artist and art instructor who has lived in California for 23 years. Starting in San Francisco she has worked her way up to Sonoma County, where she has lived for 19 years. As an artist she has no allegiance to one medium, her creative process is largely organic, revealing itself as she works and moves through her life. She chooses to work with whatever materials help her see her visions come to fruition. She has studied and exhibited her art in Boston, Ma., Lacoste, the south of France, San Francisco, Ca., and Sonoma County, Ca. Owning two art galleries along the way, has also allowed her the privilege to collaborate and support many other artists on their journey to express themselves. With boundless expressive venues, some of her visions have taken form through public installations, murals, performance art and theatrical set design. Sandra also has a special love for the magic of sculpture. “Being able to take an image from your imagination and give life to it in a tangible 3-dimentional form, is magical to me” She has worked with ceramic, ice, marble, limestone, sculpted canvas, and found objects but her current tryst is with plaster. “I love the fluidity of plaster when it’s wet and how it metamorphoses through so many different forms in such a short amount of time!” She also enjoys collaborating with other artists, as it encourages new forms of expression.

Sandra combines her lifelong love of art and with her desires to teach and share her knowledge. She has been teaching art for over 30 years, both in the public and private arenas. Exposing her students to the basics of a classical art education is very important to her, as is sharing her sense of freedom with materials and encourages freedom of expression and collaboration in her teaching. She currently is teaching in Sonoma County in many of local public and private schools, public libraries, Sonoma State University’s Youth Excel Program, Healdsburg Center for the Arts, and with home schooled children. Sandra is dedicated to ensuring that children receive an enriched education in the arts. ‘The best part of teaching art for me is, I share what inspires me, in the hopes it will inspire my students and in turn, they always inspire me! “Sandra is also honored to be a Mom of a very talented and expressive 11 year old son, who inspires her daily.
