THE Jazz Club

Doors open at 7:00.

On Thursday, January 7, THE Jazz Club at the Cloverdale Arts Alliance is pleased to present Chris Amberger & Friends. The band plays classic jazz and chamber jazz with intricate solos and duets in a quartet setting.

Chris Amberger studied with George Duke at Merritt College in Oakland from 1967 to 1969. During this musically rich time, Amberger didn’t just stay on the East side of the Bay, he was involved in the Upper Haight music scene rehearsing with Janis Joplin and the like. During 1968-69, Chris frequently played with T. Bone Walker at a bar on Haight Street, as well as doing gigs and recordings all over town. He attended Berklee College of Music in Boston from 1969 to 1973 on a full scholarship from Downbeat Magazine. He studied with Gary Burton, Major Holly, Paul Jackson, and Herbie Hancock, just to name a few.  Chris has toured with Tom Dorsey, Hasty Pudding Theatre, and the Richie Havens Show.
