THE Jazz Club

Cloverdale Arts Alliance presents THE Jazz Club first Thursdays, October to May

On Thursday, November 1, the Cloverdale Arts Alliance will continue THE Jazz Club season with Bay Area favorite, Paula Harris & The Beat Tramps.

On Thursday, December 6, the Cloverdale Arts Alliance will continue THE Jazz Club with the cool sounds of the Lorca Hart Organ Trio.

Drummer Lorca Hart grew up in Taos, New Mexico in a musical family. He was exposed to a variety of instruments and musical styles as a child but early on it became clear that the drumset was his passion. In high school he started to perform and focus on Jazz. He attended California Institute of the

Arts from 1992-96, studying with Albert "Tootie" Heath, Joe La Barbera, Charlie Haden, Wadada Leo Smith, and many others.

The Lorca Hart Organ Trio, featuring Brian Ho on Hammond B3 organ, Mike Scott on guitar and Lorca Hart on drums, is rooted in the classic jazz organ sound exemplified by artists like Jimmy Smith, Larry Young. The trio plays jazz standards and be-bop, but also explores more contemporary elements and plays original compositions as well as tunes by John Scofield, Joshua Redman, John Ellis, and R+B and pop compositions, creating its own unique musical identity.

Since that time Lorca has worked consistently in a variety of musical situations, performing with many of the West Coast's (and beyond) finest artists. He also leads his own trio featuring pianist Josh Nelson – who’s worked with Christian McBride, Tom Scott and Matt Wilson – and bassist Edwin Livingston – who has worked with Elvin Jones, Los Hombres Calientes and Hubert Laws. They both have played with Natalie Cole. Lorca can be heard on recordings by Hugh Masekela, John Heard, Justo Almario, Ronald Muldrow, Dave Pike, Phil Ranelin, the Cross Hart Jazz Experience, Meklit, Anton Schwartz and the Lorca Hart Organ Trio.

THE Jazz Club is presented at the Cloverdale Arts Alliance Gallery, which is located at 204 N. Cloverdale Blvd. Tickets are $15 for Cloverdale Arts Alliance members and $20 for non-members. Doors open at 7:00 pm; music begins at 7:30 pm. THE Jazz Club takes place the first Thursday of each month from October through May. The wine sponsor for THE Jazz Club is Rodney Strong Vineyards.
