As founder of the world fusion ensemble Ancient Future and a pioneer of the scalloped fretboard guitar, Matthew brings a lifetime of global music experience to his teaching. He has studied with master musicians in India, Indonesia, and beyond, and has performed on stages around the world, including the Festival Internacional de la Guitarra in Spain.

Matthew began his studies as a young fan of Jimi Hendrix, later expanding into jazz, classical, and flamenco to advance his musicianship. He recently released Purple Nirvana, an EP featuring the first-ever popular cover songs by Ancient Future: “Purple Haze” by Jimi Hendrix and “Smells Like Teen Spirit” by Nirvana. Matthew has been teaching guitar since high school and taught rock guitar and music theory for guitar at the Blue Bear School of Music in San Francisco for more than three decades.
